Enhancing creative expression in online worlds.

Welcome!

The current release (v1.0) of the PWL Toolset is based on actual production code! This code is being converted to an Open Source form from its original proprietary roots. At this time we are converting all of the code into externally usable form and as such the source code will appear in the repository piece by piece. We hope to have a runnable binary and basic documentation up first for people to play with while we do the necessary initial housekeeping on the code.

The only big 'gap' in the code is currently the Client-Side app. This was originally written on top of the Torque Game Engine which provided a wonderful base but is of course not OpenSource. Our plan is to release the binary of the Torque solution to have a testable client ASAP, release the core code mods for other Torque users to leverage quickly, and start development on a new OpenSource client based on an OS Engine TBD.

Downloads

The first downloads will be binary-only. The current code is Windows-only (due to media/web components and optimized networking code) but that will certainly open up as we get more time and involvement.

Source Code

We are running a public Subversion repository at svn.pwlabs.com - we will provide more details as we get some cleaned up code there!

Bug Tracking

At this time we are trying out the Mantis bug tracking system. Go to the bug tracking tool.

License

The majority of PWL code is provided under the Apache 2.0 License. The core PWL code does use some 3rd Party Components, all of which are Open Source with compatible (free, or LGPL) licenses. OSI Certified Open Source Software

Documentation

We have a Wiki setup to handle online documentation. It is sparse at the moment but increases will begin rapidly to catch up to the v1.0 release capabilities.

Development Path

Our primary development goals are:

  • Addition of more Co-creation tools (show more of the potential of Parallel Worlds!!)
  • Development of a fully Open Source client
  • Completion of an initial scalability server architecture
  • Develop core library (networking & media primarily) support for other platforms
